Red Bull RB5

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting how there is a Kers button on the wheel. Waste of wheel space.
For Sure!!

Doubt it. This would have been designed in from the beginning of the year

Whilst i can only guess at the tubular exit i think the extention of the anvil right down is possibly aimed at increasing conditioned air flow over the beam wing. As in all reality the RB5's beam wing is one of its key features (we all know how it works in with rear susp etc...)

Perhaps the winds that can sweep through Beckets could be harnessed better at the rear end with this bigger fin.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Also i am pretty apprehensive about the new nose, i really really like the way it looks now, but if its faster then im not too fussed.

Makes sense, As they would only have limited number of steering wheels, as they would rarley get damaged.

And Newey said when the car was launched that it was designed around KERS. I guess there must be a little hollow section in the engine bay that is waiting for the device if they decide to go that way.

I doubt it, I'm sure a hollow section low down in the engine bay would be quickly filled, probably by fuel.

fairly different at the same time.
greater angle.
the cameras are right at the tip of the nose.
also it seems to form kind of a scoop as the edges are higher than the center of the nose.
also the mounting point for the wing is further back.

Agreed!
I only had a quick glimpse of it. From some of the pics it looks a bit like Ferrari and also quite unique.
More than anything it looks like hammer-head shark to me))

i think one big difference is the tough on top of the nose.
every other team has run a rounded top of the nose - as far back as i can remember.
but this one is completely the opposite.
I presume it to keep the air running over the nose and create down force (somehow)
also with the hammerhead shape ( due to the cameras ) they seem to be trying to make the nose as big as possible
