As far as I could tell, that wasn't the case no? His second stint was very consistent, doing mostly low 35s (35.1). Was he on C2 or C1 though? Because Oscar was on C1 for his middle stint.

Also his middle stint was on C2 whereas Oscar had C1s. Even if Russell matched him it's still a net win for McLaren, but I think he was just slightly slower when you remove Oscar's traffic-affected outliers. So a good stint by Oscar nonetheless.

Also, as much as I like Oscar, I do think Lando would have better race pace on the "harder" but more representative high temps today, so overall quite positive I would say. McLaren is probably the happiest team from this test, but it's difficult to properly read beyond that imo.

I don't think it's wise to take Mercedes and RedBull out of the picture so early and Ferrari might still find a sweet spot and fix their balance when the season gets going. McLaren had a good test, but until we see how they fare in the first 2-3 races, no guarantees they're in a comfortable lead imo.

With (probably) slightly better track conditions, Russell kind of matched Oscar's pace in his second stint. Now Russell is looking about 2 tenths off in the third stint, but Oscar cut that one short anyway.

So at least at the hands of Oscar, the car was pretty good on the first stint, matched with Russell on the second.
Mercedes seems like have improved quite a lot in terms of deg, but their best stint (the second) came at a later time when the temps were slightly lower.

Russell started his race sim quite a bit later and today that meant a big difference in temperature during their stints. Yesterday the difference wasn't really noticeable because the temps were stable throughout the day.

If Piastri is still ahead in the sim (and he is), that is probably a further confirmation that Norris pace yesterday was realistic.

We look quicker in the sub 150 corners than russell, and the telemetry tentatively suggests to me that Mclaren were either fueled more or detuned.

The pace was near metronomic so whatever you saw wasn't affecting his pace.

From what I see in other team channels things are only good for Mclaren. Reports from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari are all mentioning ok programs but missing something. Here on the other hand we are all good to go. Things though may change in Melbourne but first impressions show that Mclaren has a good margin. The question is considering how Max likes to divebombs Mclaren cars out of bounds how are we going to contain him.

I doubt Lando will see much of Max at least early on assuming Red Bull can actually develop in season. Lando should have a straight fight with Oscar and get it done easy this year. It's Lando's WDC.

His pace was good. He matched Oscar, but Oscar was on C1s on the second stint not C2s.

Not to mention the 1 hour difference between the runs where Russell had 6-7 degrees cooler track temps, which undoubtedly helps consistency.

This ^ and the fact that it is a very long season ahead. Last year Red Bull won all opening races with outright domination and ended in 3rd as constructors.
