Plenty of Qualy style laps this morning but not from Mclaren yet. As you say, Piastri locking up a lot, at turn 1 in particular.

He's a rookie and the track is dusty and breezy so let's see how it goes.

I'm waiting for the C5s to get booted up.
Yeah, I’m waiting for that too. See how that goes.

For reference. Last year Q2 quali time was a 1:32:008 for Norris. Whereas LEC had a 1:30:558 in Q3.

Best article yet about the current package.

Seems to me that it’s essentially last years aero package when you consider 2 to 3 months ago was essentially the 2022 Abu Dhabi GP.
There is a lot being made about this Baku update so it better deliver for everyone’s sake😬

The problem is that the difference doesnt seem to have gotten smaller from last year so to be talking about that upgrade so much it better give the team more than 1 second in lap time for it to be successful. However why must the team play chase for one more year?

Wow.
The last two years have rendered (to me at least) just how much Ron Dennis brought to this team. They still haven’t recovered.

If Ron was here I'm sure those wheel brows would of been a little tougher

With a timid aero department, McLaren will never get anywhere. Blaming the Toyota tunnel isn’t valid (not that they are), but they need to be far more adventurous with their concepts, prove them in CFD, then refine them in whichever tunnel they have access too.

They haven't recovered from how Ron Dennis left the team.

The team was on its knees at one point. The fact it hasn't already gone full Williams is a massive positive.

This is so disappointing. The team missed their development targets. The car has teething issues and is slow.

I don't think there's any need to blame anyone. The team simply needs to implement better process so these things don't happen again.

Also, Is there a engineering director at McLaren because after Pat Fry left I don't think they filled up that position.

Are peoples expectations just based on the fact Mclaren were good in the 80s/90s?

The team has always said they aren't in a position to challenge, they have said aim is 4th, they realistically can't challenge the big 3 teams.

Yet people get all het up over the team being where you'd expect. Battling for 4th over the season will likely be it.

Didn't they only miss it because they went down a different route late in the day?

And is it slow? In comparison to its immediate challengers?

The manner in which they talk about the front wing changes is that it will be a "chunk of time". This to me suggests around 3 tenths upwards, plus time from other parts of the package.
