Manchild, I didn't know the answer to that question (but Nuvolari would have been a reasonable guess!). However, it interests me. Do you know the car, the race and the circumstances behind (presumably) his steering wheel becoming detatched?

Here it says the car is Cisitalia D46, the race is Coppa Brezzi, Turin, Sept 3rd 1946

Yes!

His first race outside Finland was in Monaco when he was 15 years old. During the race, the steering wheel broke, but he continued, informing his mechanic by frantically waving the steering wheel in the air on the home straight.
