Ferrari F2012 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Fiarano is a heated track, but there is one problem, the ground temperature must be at 4C or above to work without bursting its pipes. And the other thing, it needs to be on before it hits those temperatures for at least 4 hours.

However this raises 2 other questions;

1) Will the tyres work at such low temperatures?
2) What would it do to the engine? Would t even work?

I believe the Fiorano shakedown will be canceled. Last time it was like this was 2008, and that was the last time Ferrari won the constructors title.

Im sure the engine wont be a problem, they can just set the flow in the radiators to suit.. plus a bit of anti freeze.

as far as the track heating goes, are there steam pipes under the track? if so thats pretty dam cool!!

Its the exact same system thats used in football (soccer) grounds but under the track.

It has been installed since it was built. The reason, so that Ferarri could test cars on warm tarmack in Febyary/March when the typical temprature is from what it presently is to arround 10C. Seemingly it can heat the tarmac up to a toasty +40C so to simulate temps in Sepang and Bahrain and the like.

Since the testing restrictions, Schumachers initial retirement and the FIA and Bridgestone deciding on spec tyres for everyone, it hasnt been used much for F1, its main useage is for R&D of roadcars.

I doubt they're running at Fiorano because the track is snowed out right now, and it seems that it'll be the same for Friday's launch. http://www.ilmeteo.it/meteo/Modena

I'd love to spend some time on that track right now with a brand new FF.

Oh, and for the topic's sake, when was the switch to OZ announced? I obviously missed it.

Thanks. Could that perhaps mean a return to gold wheels?

Hurry up, Friday!

Launch ceremony too from what I gather; though the only streaming of proceedings will still stay on.

Edit: I just checked and there is 0% chance of rain for the Jerez test, although it might be a little overcast.
