A shameless image thread for the enginephiles

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

You mean there was no solenoid, that it was constantly engaged?

the lucas starter as illustrated does use the inertia of the starter motor to throw the gear into the flywheeltoothes ! there is a solenoid -placed remotely but only as a means of closing the big amps battery cables circuit to start the motor!
It certainly eats away both the starter gear as well as the flywheel teeth....

oh ,my bad i used the word pre engaged which is the other system with the solenoid mounted directly on the motor - pushing the gear into position before actually starting the motor ....sorry for the negligeance-i´m out of business with these old dogs too long obviously ----what a slipup..

Thanks X. A local Houston (SGP, now defunct) got 1500+ out of a Supra I6.

Guy Negre's outrageous W12, it was actually tested, but never raced, in the AGS.

With sleeve valves, right?

No - Rotary valves, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W12_engine#MGN

An example of one type of rotary valve

In 1970, Ford dropped out and more or less gave the engine-business to AJ Foyt and his shop in Houston,
where they destroked the 4.2 liter V8, see far above, to 2.65 and turbocharged it with a 1,7 bar boost.

This is what it looked like in 1973, 825 HP at 9,600 rpm;

The Ferrari 126CX Comprex, which was tested at the 1981 Long Beach US GP west in 1981, but never made it to a race;

Image

Notice the Comprex manufacturer's "BBC" sticker, Brown, Boveri & Cie, which later became ABB, Asea Brown Boveri:

A such an interesting concept, though I have to admit the the conventional version looked a lot better;

Yes it has 3 electric motors. One at every front wheel and one in the gearbox.
