Those machining marks make me cringe. Completely doesn't matter for function, but "roughed" surface machining with big stepover drives me nuts!

I kno wwhat you're talking about Tom - I've handled a quality problem in which hydraulic cylinders were failing catastrophically due to a small machining error - the finish was too rough in a groove (predetermined breaking point).

This boat caught fire at one point, it survived but I can't recall the current status.

Looking at those stub exhausts I would say supercharged. Turbo would be a better option though.

R-R Merlin/Meteor cyl head/exhaust port design reportedly does not cope well with the heat/backpressure
imposed by turbos, at least for for extended running periods.. ..with heat soak softening/distorting things a bit..

First time poster on the forum and absolutely loving this thread =D>

This is a Ford GT40 replica but it looked amazing with rear body work off, it's almost half engine!

Snapped a pic of a Camaro at the same time with an Edelbrock big block motor installed, impressive exhaust headers fitted:)

And an oddity, an inlet valve from a marine diesel engine (Don't know which particular engine but I think from a motor operating on a 2 stroke cycle- may be wrong please correct me if so).
Difficult to represent how large it is in photos, valve length-570mm stem diameter- 27,4mm valve diameter- 133mm.
Note the vanes at the bottom of the valve stem to reduce turbulence during the intake stroke- very interesting engineering.

Great pics Rocco. Love the GT40 replica. The intake valve vanes generate swirl - ensuring the fixed injector spray gets access to as much air as possible during injection.

4T valve then.. & are the valve stem vanes also designed to spin, or are they fixed?

Ford 427 Nascar mill was needed to.. win Le Mans/whip Enzo's machines/fill out the GT 40 engine compartment..
