Renault Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Even Marko says the 2018 Renault is more powerful. I dont know where that Abu Dhabi level story come from.
And a hypothetic reliable 2017 Renault should be automatically more powerful than the real one because the latter was turned down almost all the time.
So they can decrease the gap just by sorting the reliability problems.

The 2018 PU is an evolution of the completely new 2017 PU... Like the 2016 PU. Obviously Viry is struggling to make a good PU straight off and it took them a couple of seasons to make the first gen reliable and competitive but IMO they'll be faster this time with the second generation because Viry has improved meanwhile (technology, headcount, infrastructures etc)
Straight from the horse's mouth:

As I said, one can only hope it's all PR nonsense.
Oh, it's Abiteboul, then it's mostly PR nonsense.
If the AD level = the hypothetic full power AD level, then it's not bad.

I'd have to agree. I actually dislike Abiteboul with a passion. He's unnecessarily aggressive, full of rubbish and talks down about his competitors. His attitude is far too poor for a leader of a sports team at this level. So must of the nonsense that finds its way out of his trap I tend to think it's just PR glam and glosses over the actual fact.

So in other words don't expect 950 horses. I think you will find the honda and renault not to different on hp terms come Melbourne with Ferrari and Mercedes in another league. This is the same crap Renault have been pulling since 2014. Excuses as to why they haven't progressed.

Still think Renault will be some way ahead of Honda this year.

Marko already confirmed Renault has more power currently and he knows both figures so no, come Melbourne you won't find that.

And Renault have been talking reliability first since last year so no surprises.

We need to remember Honda also said they need to prove reliability with the first engine so it will also arrive in Melbourne as a "compromised spec", with power to come on the next engines. So it isn't only Renault playing it safe.

Was Abiteaboul speaking of Abu dhabi post season test power level?

We have a pic showing parts of the PU https://twitter.com/ManuelAvino/status/ ... 72/photo/1
Where is the intake plenum? and the air filter is located very backwards and low, just above the turbo, even lower than in the RS.17

That is not really low actually. Nothing special to see there. Wait until all the covers are off.

You can see the air filter through the inlet plenum in the other cars. This one's pretty low. It helps explain why the 'airbox' area is so narrow. The width and length of the filter need not be accommodated up high anymore.

They moved the ERS cooler and put the filter in its position it seems.

If you wanted a filter, why would it not be the length of the airbox intake pipe, diagonally traversing it?

You could have a 400mm long filter if you wanted.
