Why is nobody discussing Bottas' Halo problems?

Post

Bottas was testing a HALO fitted to his car and Jo Bauer (FIA) was timing, and it was painfully slow.

Yeah, but they can practice and work it out blah blah blah.....

FIA want it and are driving it through on safety grounds despite the fact that it won't do all that much to actually make any positive difference in the majority of accidents.

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I mean - that's true - they *can* practice, and work out where to grab it. What's the issue with that explanation?

Look how much room he needs above the halo to get out. Ive said it many many times, and ill say it again. If that car is upside down , i fail to see how you can get out. You need a big gap to get your crash helmet through!

Is this a possible way out ? If the orange line was the asphalt, could you get a crash helmet out with the headrest possibly being in the way ?

Why would they practice? Their going to be doing it every time they get in and out of a car, it’s not removable

Thank God it hasn’t been of use use in many previous accidents, its there to stop the driver from having his head crushed

Thankfully there hasn’t been such an incident before, hopefully their never will be, but I’ve seen plenty of incidents that came darn close to it

Nothing like confirmation bias. I'm vaguely aware of Tobi Gruner as a source posted a lot on here, but have no idea who he actually is. Seems to be the sort (likewise Will Buxton) who complains about head protection being against the "DNA" of F1 but would be first on the bandwagon demanding Jean Todt's head if the FIA had a viable solution (halo) that could have saved a driver if the worst were to happen. Polarizing opinions, no matter how inconsistent, are good for the clicks.

Is there video or has an official time been released? How structural was that halo - atm they're all dummy halos, not bonded to the chassis. F1 cars aren't the most elegant things to get out of anyway - do the same 4 stills of a driver getting out of a car post race on Sunday and it'll look about the same.

Thankfully fires are not a common occurrence anymore and when they are they tend to stay in the engine bay.
Anyone know the rules for Marshalls when a car is actually on fire and turned over car they try and flip the car.
Would also be interesting to see someone try and pull out an unconscious person (crash test dummies not suggesting someone knocks a driver out)

When was the last time a driver crawled out from an overturned car anyway?

The Halo will be on cars from next year. The sooner you get used to the idea the better. If this (thread) is a form of catharsis that's great, otherwise it's kinda pointless and rather sad to see here.

When was the last time a Halo could have saved a drivers life- or prefented a bigger accident?
