McLaren MCL33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

As mentioned, maybe they should start to look elsewhere, maybe flexing or that rear suspension or even try the old nosecone, since nothing they do seem to move them anywhere, at the same time other teams keep copying their solutions
What makes you say they have done anything yet ? B4 hungry that is.

New floor, or are they trying to understand their old one?
PhilipM said there would be a new floor
All we can tell from that is that there is flowvis on the diffuser and it looks like it wasn't even placed on the diffuser. It appears like flow from some where further up that made it's way to the diffuser.

Red stripe on the front left of the car (front right of picture). Have they been feeding those chickens that wing looks bigger?

Green on the floor rear right.... new? would have thought that was a mirage had I not seen that other picture with the flowvis.

Pink suspension. I noted this a few weeks ago and I've been away on vacation. I've looked at a few cars a nobody has a bar so thick there. This seems to be how McLaren are compensation for the other bar being so close to the center of the car.

at least they now know that some air is actually flowing somewhere around the car.

This was apparently a new diffuser that has been previously tested.

That's flo-viz. And the mid-wing hasn't changed.

Now I am no aero expert, far from it. But those side fences on the nose seem more disruptive than useful. I would be intrigued to see what would happen if they kept the same basic design, but just deleted the fences...

Has anyone run any CFD simulations to show what they do? Could you run one without them to see the difference?
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

They capture air that spils off the side of the nose, and direct it around the car

If i remember correctly from their pre season talks the front monoqoque+suspension was pretty much carried over, otherwise i would suspect something is "turning" of the car, but since that front worked last year? Offcourse they introduced the new nosecone...
Last year they atleast gained on tracks like this, they dont this year at all, so could be integration or related parts, rear suspension,
But how on earth with a near copy of last years car, atleast the front they suddenly loose df compared to last year, and that with far more agressive sidepod design, seem to me there must be a flaw so deeply incorporated, a bit like williams just to less extent, i just hope they find so next years car wont suffer
