The McLaren drivers have gone wild on the softs.
Time to check things for 2019 so I understand why they have choosed those tyres.

Final lap overtaking by Verstappen on Kimi... Legally! This time he makes it stick!

Let’s hope they have a consistent view on leaving the track this year instead of a bendy 1 that causes ‘cringe’ in the cool down room.

Or Kimi to overtake Max in the exact same way and gets away with it! causing Max to crash into Kimi on the slow down lap just like Cole Trickle [-o<

With Whiting afterwards approving it, saying it was only a single agressive move with no hesitation in it.

Leaving Max with a 10 race ban, which causes headscratching for Red Bull

Given that the championship could be likely sealed this weekend, I think some championship permutations are in order:

Hamilton is 5 times WDC if he increases the gap to Vettel by another 8 points.

This is achieved by...

  • ...winning COTA with Vettel 3rd or lower (net gain 10 points)
  • ...finishing 2nd, with Vettel 5th or lower (net gain 10 points)
  • ...finishing 3rd, with Vettel 7th or lower (net gain 9 points)
  • ...finishing 4th, with Vettel 8th or lower (net gain 8 points)
  • ...finishing 5th, with Vettel 9th or lower (net gain 8 points)
  • ...finishing 6th, Vettel 11th or lower (net gain 8>= points)

Any other outcome and Vettels championships hopes live on to see another race.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

This should be fun to watch. Especially on COTA. Great track.

The high chance or rain and cold weather this weekended should make it interesting.

Fri - 69°/57° 40%
Sat - 69°/55° 60%
Sun - 68°/54° 40%
What about rainfall amounts? A 40% chance of rain and a cm of rain predicted for the day may mean very light or no rain falling on the circuit itself. The chance of rain in Japan was also high but the rainfall amount prediction was low. Thus not much rain fell on the circuit.

I believe these are recent photos (this week). More rain still on tap before the weekend;

There are some which show tunnel 2 almost full of water, but those are from 2015.

It always bugs me that so many drivers leave the track in S1, I think it's T8 that so many drivers just go all 4 wheels off track to straighten it out. IIRC Ricciardo did it almost ever lap while following Bottas and, I think maybe it was Sainz they showed doing it loads.

IT makes a pretty big difference going into the backstraight to cut the corner and get better traction and basically a shallower turn onto the straight before it. So many cars clearly made the effort to stay on track and others took such a clearly illegal and faster line and it was completely ignored.
