Mercedes W11

Re: RB, consensus from where? British media trying to drum up interest in a potentially dull season? Given how wrong Ben and Gary Anderson have been in the past I would heavily discount their opinion.
To be fair quite a few people on this forum who have gone over to watch the testing have said the same thing about the handling of the red bull.
Chandhok was on duty today trackside and did a stint in the booth and said the Merc was by far and away the best looking out on track.

Interestingly, yesterday they had George Russell out on track and he flatly denied you could determine anything from trackside observations.
Russel is spot on. Teams drive with extreme setup and aero configurations to on purpose to simulate different scenarios and learn the behaviour of the car. An there are fuel levels as well. Trackside observers just can't know what's going on inside of that car.

So far, no significant visible upgrades on the Merc in week 2. Saw them tinker with different RW end plates, and that's about it.

Yes, it's a bit strange tbh. I wasn't expecting anything crazy but I wasn't expecting nothing either.

Maybe today we will see something new.

They have enough changes on the car already from last year so I can't see them changing too much more early on until they understand it better. I expect to see a lot of small in season updates though.

Have you seen how stable is the front end of the car in the corners? just have a look at turns 10 or 12, they can remain in the right line near the kerb instead of Ferrari that must take a less tight line. It's incredible to see that Lewis at turn 12 also moves the steering wheel outwards not to go on the grass inside of the corner! That's why W11 loooks a bit lazy on the rear.

This version of the car must have gone into production in sometime early January. Because there was no upgrade for the second test, the Melbourne upgrade package (they have said they will have one) would have been in works for nearly 2 months and must be in production now to go to Melbourne.

1.15.732 C5 (bottas) - compared to 1:16.196 (downtuned engine)
1.16.384 C3 (verstappen)

compound corrected (+0.6)
Merc just ahead of RBR (0.052) but with reliability issues?

Don't know if the times can be compared that easily as Bottas'time was set last week (other track conditions + doubt that they already pushed last week).

EDIT: Merc only 5-6tenths faster than a Renault (1:16.276 (ric), can't be right.
Mercedes AMG + Hamilton => dreamteam!

Alfa Romeo packed up shop with about 1 hour to go in the final test.

Meanwhile, with 1/2 hour to go, Mercedes was turning laps with Flo-Vis all over the back of the car.

You would think Alfa was the dominant champ and Mercedes was trying to catch up!

It looks like they made that CF piece track side and taped it on. I wonder if it's to easily vary the cooling outlet so they can validate temperatures.
