Expdcting Mercedes 1 - 2 by 1 second with the entire paddock gobsmacked.
Trolling or trying to be funny ? You’re not btw.
I do not understand your claim about trolling. But I agree, this is not funny. This is unfortunately a realistic fear as we have a very compromised season...fewer races, races where the order gets mixed up like Monaco or Spore are canceled...and no way to go live to a race weekend. Furthermore big issues with overtaking in the midfield due to the aero as seen in testing.
So having two Mercs coming in with a 30sec gap to the rest would kill it completely, than you do not even have to watch it on TV.

Problems at Mercedes

Jack Plooij, reporter: "There's a very good chance he'll win [Lewis]. On the way here I got a call and I understood that the engines at Mercedes have to be taken out. A mistake would have been found in the Mercedes engine [of Lewis] and now all engines, including those at the customers, have to be swapped. So the weekend already starts "dramatic'', Plooij says in the broadcast Op1.

That doesnt make sense to me. That means all 6 engines (Merc, Racing point, Williams) need to come out with this fault that requires a whole engine change. So they now put in a different spec engine without this fault. Surely as the season hasnt started yet, you would use the spec 2 engine from the start anyway ? I see this story as being BS, I dont understand why Mercedes would have taken 2 specs of engines to the first race ???

Maybe translation has mixed it up, but I would believe the story if they are only changing 1 part of the engine, not changing the whole engine.

I too read the news on GPBLOG about Plooij receiving a telephone call.

Dutch media click bait story to keep Max fans happy, it seems. On the W11 thread, it's said that the claim has been debunked already.

The translation is correct. The engines must be removed from the car to be checked and, if necessary,
to replace / repair a part (s). He says nowhere that they will / should have a new spec engine.

The title says engines need to be changed, so if the engine is to be changed, they will need to put in a different spec engine, or are they crazy and will just put the same spec engine in

Suggesting a 1s lead on a 1 minute laptime is bordering on trolling, yes.

I would call this rather a normal exaggeration. Not even a bad one. Claiming trolling is rather bad manners...

Furthermore: Looking at the Q times in Austria, this is not so far away. In 2018 the Bull that won the race was 0.8sec slower in Q. When the Ferraris turned up the engines last year for Q2 and Q3 they gained a second compared to the step the Mercs did from Q1.
Seeing the performance in testing, the strong claims from Toto that everyone else is sandbagging, DAS, the huge aero upgrade, the new engine spec...I am truly concerned that we see a 2014 gap situation.

Mercedes missed the VSC pit opportunity and Redbull was altready way I front when the second Merc retired.
