Might have held my breath during S2 from Hamilton. Mental car.
Yeah those were some insane outboard shots. Might as well say just as I predicted it could happen, lap record did in fact fall.
Anyone hazard a guess who's been fastest trough pouhon though? A hint, it wasnt hamilton
Verstappen?

Bottas taking it flat? Lewis in both Q3 laps lifted a little.

BTW, I believe they're again using strat 3 in Q3. Kemmel straight and Blachimont top speeds are very low. You heard anything on F1TV team radio?
Sainz held the fastest apex speed (294 kmh) but perez has the actual fastest mini-sector (292 kmh). Sainz has the fastest mini-sector just after the apex one, so perhaps he was more about exit speed, strange one, but we're talking thousands here.
Hamilton, Verstappen, Albon and Bottas were all flat but ERS mappings would give them no more than 291-292 kmh on the apex. Perez had to lift since RP is also too fast on entry but still held lots of speed.

How come pole is still only 3 tenths faster than Vettel's Q2 in 2018?
Possibly tyres. The drivers were all taking it fairly easy on the outlaps - even those not jockeying for positions in the silly trains. Suggests that the red tyre was going to struggle to hold up for the full lap without some care. Possibly the tyres didn't like the conditions as much as they did 2 years ago.

Also, the whole early part of the season has given a reduced development of the cars. Normally, the cars are carrying extra pace due to early season upgrades. Perhaps the teams just haven't been able to bring the lap time they might have expected to in a normal season.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Someone should be critical of what Renault are doing. Their pace is suspect. Last year brake balance, and this year they said they weren't bringing any PU upgrades. Right.
Dude they have no wings... Also Ric was going strong since the beginning of the season.
Ricciardo can't explain where his pace is coming from. Renault might be playing dumb like last year and say they didn't know what they were doing was illegal. They dropped their case against RP, maybe they don't care to get caught or will accept it afterwards. Probably would only be a slap on the wrist from the FIA anyway, so they may just run with it. After what happened last year you can't blame anyone for suspecting foul play, even if they say they were too dumb to know otherwise.

Were you looking at the app telemetry? Because in Lewis' 1st Q3 lap Sky cut to the onboard hud, and Lewis had a little lift. His 2nd Q3 lap, apex speed is about 1km/h slower, so I imagine there was also a tiny lift.

C. Horner on Sky interview: "Renault went for a lower DF setup, Merc for a higher one and us ... (somewhere in between)" ... aka Renault thinks that tomorrow will be dry, Merc hopes it`ll be wet and RBR has an optimum setup for both situations knowing nowadays there`s not too much between a setup for dry and one for a wet track ...

Doesn't look like it's strat2. Top speeds are abnormally low. Mercedes only beat RB by 0.5s in a circuit that was in their favor. I personally think they're again using strat3 like in Spain.

Could be, lift is not registered in app even on his first run, but thats nothing new.

Mb is set up for the middle sector and in anticipation of rain.

1km could be accounted for by a slight difference in line and steering input surely?

Yep. I don’t think that many people realise that the power full throttle power can vary a lot dependant on what the ERS is doing. There’s also an interesting question as to how big the power reduction is with even just a slight lift.

So in reality the cars in 2018 were faster around here because it's highly likely they would have gone more than 3 tenths faster in Q3 had the rain held off.

hamilton's first q3 pouhon run. Lift is almost imperceptible. They also mention strat 2 was used but I'll have to check.

Bottas was told strat2 before starting the lap. I just checked. It makes sense since he beat verstappen by only 0.01s, without strat 2 he'd be behind.

Do you have an onboard of Perez, Hamilton's minimum speed through there was 292kph.
