Mercedes W12

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

As dans79 spotted, seems that both drivers tested in FP1 different rear wing configurations, BOT`s with a shallower DRS flap and a bigger curvature in the middle of the main plain, thus he could get a higher top speed than HAM ... or probably he was in a higher engine mode :D ...

Scarbs posted these on twitter. I don't think I've ever seen the pedals of a modern F1 car in this detail before, very interesting!

In the right photo is the car pre-Silverstone upgrade, based on the vertical bargeboard/vane near the mirror ...

This years rules killed this car. Anyone who says something different is cueless.
Merc have no chance, token system didn't help, cost cap didn't help, low rake didn't help, mistakes didn't help.
And still RB barely can win it. Joke.

Indeed. RB/Honda is not fast, Mercedes slow due to rule change....

Yep. They're still where they were last year. Didn't progress at all. Merc went backwards.

This looks to be more like the column bending downwards due to braking forces. It is also not new (see his 2018 lap):

It shows up under braking so I would guess It's him putting some weight on the wheel under braking; he's pushing on the wheel so it is tilting downwards showing more of the column from the viewpoint of the camera above his head.

You can see the same thing on Max' car on 2019:

Are we sure its only breaking? Found this picture of quali lap analysis. The yellow arrow is the point of reference next to the 'teamview logo'. Seems to me that on the main straight (1st picture) the steering wheel is in a different position the from the exit of turn 3 (picture 3).....
