Verstappen definitely had the least fuel. Immediately went into pits

From my arrmchair expert point of view
Mercedes also went in.

FP2 there will be no playing around, since it's the only practice that matters in Bahrain.

We've seen this before in 2020. Now let's hope Honda can 'match' the AMG when the engines get set for qualy/race. Then I think we're in for a season!

It will be the best season for a long time.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

I think they did a few more laps on the fastest lap.

Anyways, for Mercedes, understeer is good considering the way the car was handling 2 weeks ago. should be easy to add front end grip to balance it out. Although may be just the right way to go to protect those rear tyres in Bahrain.

My major hope is that Aston Martin was also running much heavier than the guys around....

Merc looks pretty good, but not as good as the Red Bull. The lap from Norris was interesting but fuel loads are unknown which makes it hard to really take anything away. AT and Alfa look to have improved on last season though which is going to be great for midfield racing.

Max to take pole and then romp away in the race.

Bahrain is rear limited, so if they are having some issues with the rear this will just exacerbate those problems. I expect they will run with a lot of understeer to help protect that.

Two weeks ago Mercedes had a bad rear end, and now they understeer like hell. This smells fishy.

Oké. Ham to be 4th at the end of the year after Ver Bot and Per. Or is that pushing it?
But just suppose it weren't hypothetical.

Be interesting to see FP2, but in FP1 Max was 1 tenth quicker than Lewis, and had a big tow from Gio on the start finish straight. He was 1 tenth faster than Bottas in S2. And in S3 Bottas matched him. So I think 3 tenths is bigger than what it really is. More like 1 tenth , but fuel is unknown. As a Merc fan, I'm happy with how that session went. I expected Max to come out at the end and go 7 tenths clear.

Personally I think the running Mercedes did in fp1 was more about testing what they thought the car needed setup wise based on two weeks of data analysis. It will be interesting to see if they can make tweaks and go faster for fp2.

FP1 is unrepresentative though, given time of day. Let's wait at least until FP2 to overreact before qualifying/race. :D
