This is gonna be a weekend to forget in my opinion even if they qualify decent we’re going to get royally shafted on these straights during the race roll on Singapore 👍🏼
I don’t think so. The straights don’t come after slow speed corners (bar the one after the turn 1/2 chicane). So as long as what I’m saying above is correct it might not be terrible. Though before FP1 I had the same feeling as you

Not too bad from Lando on high fuel on softs. Only around 0.4s of VER also running high fuel. Eyeballing of course but tentatively they seem to be a bit more on top of the drag issue. Maybe our issues are more rear traction related than I initially thought
to be fair even though it was high fuel, it seemed far more on the lighter end of it.. I think Daniel's lap would be more comparative

-- I will say though the car is pretty rapid in a straight from what I've seen so far, question is how much traction did they sacrifice

P4 for Lando in FP2. Don't think anyone here would have expected that before today, very encouraging. Let's see how that translates tomorrow once everyone gives it the full beans.

McLaren still haven’t run a young driver in an FP session this year, isn’t it mandatory?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

And why do we think that is?
Hint? It starts with O and ends with scar Piastri.

As far as I’m aware they’re still trying to get alpine (or fia/crb) to allow him to drive the two fp1s for macca

For some reason Mclaren (Lando) have gone from running one of the most conservative PU settings the last couple of seasons to being one of the more aggressive users on a Friday.
They seem to have completely swapped everything we historically knew about them this season

I don't know... Daniel was about 1-2kph quicker on all the straights on quali sim... he lost all his time mostly in the corners. I think it's more everyone tends to find more performance and McLaren tends too stagnate.

SPA was a function of track position more than raw pace… The car can get some decent pace, but if it gets stuck in a DRS train, there isn’t enough pace differential to make the overtake.

They were struggling out of La Source with traction and the gap created coming out of T1 was too big to overcome on the Kemmel straight… When they were running in “Free Air”, lap times weren’t bad.

They didn't use new softs in Q3 as they thought it would give them an advantage in the race. But even so their best one lap pace from Q2 was 2 seconds slower than Max's fastest lap overall, a huge gap to the front.

Pace in the race wasn't much better either and unfortunately there is a strange anomaly with our car, in that it doesn't gain as much speed as the other cars in DRS, according to Lando, which makes it hard to overtake in DRS train and becoming more susceptible to being overtaken in said train.

McLaren’s pace with DRS deployed is “pretty shocking” compared to its Formula 1 midfield rivals, says Lando Norris after a point-less Belgian Grand Prix weekend for the team.

Race pace also looked encouraging. Who knows anymore, this car is bipolar.

Those stats are made up. not sure what F1 is looking at, not laptime, that's for sure. Based on the numbers I saw on the FIA website Norris's race pace is 2 to 3 tenth slower that Alonso. That and Alonso did 14 laps always around 1:26.5 with little to no drop off while Norris's times dropped significantly after 10 laps.

How they judged Ferrari race pace based on the lap times I saw I have no idea.

Agreed. Even Lando said in the link I posted before that Alpine are ‘a chunk quicker’ on race pace so what data has been used for this analysis I’m just as lost as you are.
They seem to get the Mclaren data consistently wrong.
Again they had Mclaren looking decent in Spa…. Maybe they omitted the La Source data😂
