Possible gearbox damage?
Doesn’t matter anymore this year, just take a new one and find out if this one is still OK in the next Free Practice.

A very strange rule update. Now you can crash for free (no risk of having to start with a (potentially) damaged gearbox and can make others people lap impossible.
The cars are effectively in Parc Ferme now though?
You can repair a car under parc ferme, with like for like parts, without any penalty.

Yeah. How does that work with gearboxes though?

Wonder if Merc will have enough parts.

no question merc has the parts to build 2 completely new cars if need be.
they have a pool of 6 gbs this year that they can rotate around just like engines. so if you lunch one you can get a new one with no penalty until you use up all 6.

The lap that got Perez into Q3 was illegal.

This favoritism is into blatant territory now. Might as well give the title to the bulls and call it a day. No need to run the rest of the season.

We'll await the verdict of the summons shall we first before talking nonsense?

The main issue will be that a grid drop would be applied to the main race and not the sprint (just called "sprint session" in the regulations, still not classified as a race).

So had Perez gotten the time removed he'd be starting on P13, he would have every chance to get up to a likely top6 grid spot but now a grid place penalty would most likely put him further back than he'd be if the race direction was competent.

It's been 1:45h since the hearing and i think it's fair to assume RB will try to get it thrown out based on procedural error or whatever you'd want to call it.

Im actually shocked the stewards didnt remove the time immediately like with every other one.

Do we have any footage of it?

It is odd why they have not acted upon it. Even more surprised another team who missed out on Q3 because of it hasn't protested it.

Probably the best outcome that could have been expected all round.
Maybe Gasly would be a little peeved, but he was not going to gain much had he gone through

It says Lap 17 is deleted too; that puts him back further.
