Anybody know exactly what D”Ambrosio is doing for the team? What precisely is his role?

That hardly needs him to be at races sat/stood next to Wolff on Sundays a la Lauda.
Team ANTI-HYPE. Prove it, then I’ll anoint you.

Presumably he and the team think he is doing something useful by being there. And it's their money, so...

Presumably within budget cap expenditure?

If he 'knows stuff' it could well be a good price to pay
To learn stuff you experiment, which could fail, or ask someone.
What stuff he knows that would be of use to the team though...

This is true (and as someone that has worked as a trainer in industry, I know the benefit that can be passed on through learned experience). I just wonder what he can offer (given his experience) during a GP?

Of course. Unless it's a role that is allowed to be outside of the cost cap. No idea whether driver development is part of the cost cap. I would guess it isn't otherwise all of the teams that have driver development programmes would have dropped them.

Reading the article it looks like his role will possibly be expanded into something bigger over time.
He did act as a team principal in Formula E, so it's not like he's got zero experience of the trackside
management of a racing team.

Nothing to say, really. Unrepresentative session which tells us little about the real relative pace of the cars at this circuit.

I feel really it's hard to read from running so far. That's for the teams and us in observation, with everyone probably keeping their cards/hand a little covered while getting on with their own information acquisition.

With the gap at front being obvious, it does seem otherwise that these regulations are providing very close competing designs currently. There's not a defined hierarchy from 2nd back generally, not with any great certainty it seems.

It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out in FP3 and quali today.

The car looks sorta quick in qualifying trim? But Canada is about preserving the rear tyres and the brakes.

Definitely is. The car looked well balanced too.

Worth mentioning others were doing long runs when Merc did their quali sims but still .

They’ll just be able to pump in laps until they generate the sufficient temperature.
