People laugh at Haas model question it in long articles, but ignore the fact that Racing Bulls are going to do the exact same model.
I think it works really well for Ferrari. It will work well for RBR too. Think that system prioritizes the bigger team. It's there to make more efficient use of their resources under the budget cap for the mother team. The other team get to use unused resources on the cheap while the mother team keeps them off their books.

Haas never choose to use previous years Ferrari parts, they always got parts from the current year.

It cost more to buy the parts (at least in the cost cap budgeting) than if the team developed and manufactured it themselves.
I think this trivializes the issue too much. There's a startup cost. A team that doesn't have the facility to produce a certain component has to go through the startup phase for such an operation which includes mistakes. It could cost more to get things going. You probably have to poach people and pay them more than what they were being paid at the previous employer. You'll probably waste money on failed design. It's not so simple.
It doesn't turn.

Helmut Marko says Steiner wanted to convert his Netflix popularity into owning shares of the Haas team

"I've only heard that he wanted to convert his popularity into shares in the team. And owner Gene Haas no longer liked that."

"...Steiner became a victim of his popularity."

Steiner should have spent more time in the sim to understand where the drivers really needed the development focus to be placed.

Instead, the limelight called him away.🤬

One of Haas's problems last year was that they weren't finding any performance in development. They had money to produce new parts but didn't have any parts to produce that would improve lap time.

As per F1 commentary last year Gunther was against upgrade/change in concept of the car. It was green lit very late after Spain which resulted in it being produced 5 months later.

Right cause it wasn't any faster and still had the rear tire degrading faster than other teams issue.

That was his toxic management. "Your last upgrade was f*****d, why do one this year"

Worth reading.

Steiner had worked at Jaguar and Red Bull before heading to the USA to start a composite business in North Carolina, the home of NASCAR. He watched with some interest as the doomed US F1 team crashed and burned at a facility just a few miles away, but that didn't deter him from putting together his own project.

Steiner came up with the idea of hooking up with Ferrari and taking everything allowed by the rules in terms of mechanical parts, thus reducing the need for in-house design and manufacturing resources, and making the project realistic.

The next step was to find someone to pay for it, and Haas – already successful in NASCAR and keen to grow his machine tool business worldwide – was the perfect candidate.
The former Manor factory in Banbury was just about fit for purpose when the team started in 2016. Allowing for the fact that manufacturing is done elsewhere, it has nevertheless fallen behind the times. Even the paddock hospitality facility is the most basic of any team.

Although he was always efficient with the budget granted to him, Steiner was keen to upgrade everything in an attempt to keep up. He was held back by Haas, with dissenting views on management and spending becoming obvious.

Steiner was clearly getting frustrated by having his hands tied. Continuing despite regular disputes with the owner, being unable to pursue the changes he deemed necessary, was going to be difficult – to the point where he may perhaps even have been wondering whether he wanted to continue over the long term. In the end, Haas made the decision for him.

archive 2023 thread

2024 discussion are taking place in the 2023 threads. Seeing as the mods are very particular about what gets posted where, I have no doubt they would want 2024 discussions being posted in 2024 threads.

Correct, anyone wants to start the Haas 2024 team thread?

That said, team threads is where explicitly we request all oddities and tangents to go, it is only car threads and engine threads where we try to be strict.
