Mercedes W14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is there an inlet under the sidepod intake kind of like Ferrari or just shapes and light playing tricks?

Edit: just a subtle illusion. Picture of other side of the car it all looks flat.

What is this vertical slit in the middle of the sidepod?

My guess feeds ducts that exit over the top of the sidepods for more energetic flow and to avoid boundary layer attachment issues (much like Ferrari) but who knows - it's just a guess
I think it is not assemble yet. I do not recall any opening other that the louvres allowed in that area. Ferrari's solution uses cockpit areas to create those slits, but they are in a completely different location.

Close-ups from Fabrega

Seems theyve managed a large outwashing strake attached to the floor body underneath the mid-wing

Looks like Merc now has a gutter at the top and tub at sides. Checked pictures of some other cars but other seem to have flatter top next to airbox.

Hybrid of RB and AMR to me as both have the sidepod that downwashes to the floor.

by looking at the old version there was always the part where to plug the new arm
this upgrade was planned before even testing

Building in modularity to a particular area that you have identified you may want to change doesn't mean it was always planned from before the beginning of the season. Let's not jump to conclusions that cannot be drawn :D

Rear floor support on the Merc is exactly the same style as the RB18/rb19.
