2023 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What can be inferred from the rear wing levels of the difference cars at the silverstone shakedowns?

Some teams like Red Bull were running dinner plate rear wings. Others like Mercedes running a barn door. What could this mean?
Nothing, it's shakedown, not performance runs. Maybe RB was trying out low downforce setup with intent, but Merc is using last year's rear wing.

I'm fully expecting a lot wider "zeropod" design with mid wing kept and outward sloping sides like W13. Whether this can be still called zeropods or not... that's another discussion
3 for 3, becoming something of a Merc design and performance prophet

4 for 4 actually, semantics prophecy is true as well

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Weren’t rear wing levels pretty similar over the last season with exception of Mercedes?

Be interesting to see a comparison of all the cars from their days round silverstone, as all should be pretty similar given the weather etc.

Let’s see what filming day brings tomorrow for Merc.
Maybe they were testing Max downforce to check for any porpoising

No one has even seen a photo of the Red Bull and he mostly just pulls stuff out of his rear regarding Ferrari.

They are typical British pundits who will put Ferrari in the mud as often as they can

It's a shame and embarrassing

Outside of Haas the midfield looks almost like a spec series.

Will be interesting to see which of the Red Bull clones gets closest to the front.

My bet is Aston. Their car looks solid and Alonso will be hungry.

I don't really buy the Ferrari thing. To me their developments look very sensible, added to the PU upgrade. Also, the S-duct solution is by far the most innovative solution so far this year if it turns out to be true.

I'm hoping there's only top 3 and midfield this year, without backmarkers. At the moment, Williams and AT look a bit underdeveloped compared to others, but it's still the same basic concept and sidepod changes can be implemented relatively quickly.

Floor design and overall aero maps coupled with suspension design are crucial for performance, integration tools are critical and this will determine the unfortunate backmarkers over the season.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Someone has to come last. Hopefully the delta is small and even the P9-P10 WCC teams still feature often in the top 15 of races and qualifying. :D

I really hope our excitement returns once we see the True RB and MB

Would be a badass move if RB shows up with the next thing and make all copies look outdated instantly..
