RB VCARB 01

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The sidepods are very different to the renders / late spec 2023, aren't they?

I like how the car has more conventional "waterslide" sidepods now!

The launch renders were just the 2023 sidepods with an underbite inlet 'bolted' on.

They've gone in a conventional direction with overbody but seems very conservative so far. Feel like they have either bulky cooling or lot of margin to hone it

Are those dimples or protrusions on the front of the caliper?

Can't tell but I'm going with dimples

Isn't a dimple a protrusion? :?:

EDIT: Sorry, confused with "pimple", english is my second language.

Those are dimples. Light source is overhead, highlight of the dimple is on the lower half. If convex this would be reversed.

Dimples are concave.

Under the skin of Ricciardo’s VCARB 01, compared to the 2023 chassis.

I think that's different enough to not be a transfer of concept.

Especially the sharp corners on the front bottom of the strakes. I imagine that loses a ton of vorticity for it to behave very similar.

Yeah definitely not the same and who knows really knows the performance difference but would be great to be able to see the rest of the floors for both and compare the similarities. Having said that who would know whats info might be exchanged over a cheeky lunch with both teams mingling engineers on occasion.
