I presume F1 cars run a dry sump system to minimise BHP loss and ensure all parts of the engine are always lubricated. How do they deaerate the oil in the oil tank though?
I am not sure about today's cars, but certainly older F1 engines used a swirl pot. This is like a large vertical cylinder where the oil is fed in at the top at a tangent to the cylinder, causing the oil/air mixture to rotate or swirl within.
The rotation works like a centrifuge causing the oil to move outwards and downwards to the drain at the bottom of the cylinder. The air remains in the center and is vented through a one way valve at the top of the cylinder.
