Hello all! I would love to join in on the chat, however, I am confused on the whole process (for instance, what programs do I need? Do I need any? Will this all be compatible with my MacBook Pro?). If anyone would post their insight or PM me, that would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi,

Try installing this one and than pick one of servers from Quakenet server folder as explained on page 3 of this topic. Hope it helps.

A shortlist of IRC clients:

For Windows:
mIRC http://www.mirc.com is the gold standard
Trillian http://www.trillian.cc combo MSN/AIM/IRC/Whatever client

For Mac:
Colloquy http://colloquy.info free, GPL, I personally use
Snak http://www.snak.com shareware, I never use but apparently popular
ircle http://www.ircle.com shareware, use if you still have big hair and listen to Bon Jovi

For Linux (GUI):
Gaim http://gaim.sourceforge.net combo MSN/AIM/IRC/Yahoo free, GPL, I personally use
Kopete http://kopete.kde.org similar to Gaim but for KDE
BitchX http://www.bitchx.org if you're old-skool and the Domino's delivery guy memorizes your name and address

For the truly hardcore UNIX warrior (command-line):
ircII http://www.eterna.com.au/ircii/ OSX/Linux/UNIX/Solaris/etc - because GUI is just for wussies

THANKS MANCHILD & JOSEFF!!!!! I just downloaded Colloquy and now I'm calibrating it to get onto the chat channel. Thanks again I really appreciate it!!! I can't wait for quali tonight! (I live in the Midwest so it will be at 10:30).

That reminds me, when will the next chat session be held?

Chat is open 24/7

I'm not an expert for setting up IRC on Mac but I guess it shouldn't be more difficult than setting it up on Windows.

Somewhere in the menu of chat client you've installed is a list of Servers. So try finding Quakenet servers, pick one near to you and once you connect to it just type in that same window /join #f1technical

That /join #f1technical is universal command so if anyone is having problems with joining a room type that instead of searching for button on menu.

--------------

For those who wonder why didn't I come to chat during qualifying here's the answer:

My nephew went out on Friday night, got drunk, lost his home keys and came to my place knowing that I’ll be up watching qualifying rather than to risk waking up his father at 3 AM to unlock the door

So I've watched qualifying on TV with him instead of watching it on PC TV tuner and chatting in next window.
