Force India VJM02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Will the VJM02 improve the teams constructors standings compared to '08?

Force India is sad, they don't even have their own news, its all directly as-is from autosport. LAME.

You'd figure that they have news on themselves, but not even that, the article about them having their shakedown at Silverstone today is from autosport. WTF.

Interesting logic there Professor; "Improve and they are alive. Do not mprove, they are dead." I have to consider that one for a bit. #-o

Looks really nice, the colors suit the car in my opinion :)
It looks more similar to the Ferrari than to the McLaren :o
Well at least looks slim :P

Hmm the front wing appears to be full of rule bending.
The wing mirror mounts ingenious
The sidepod vertical conditioners are clever.
The rear looks like it's been vacuum packed! If I'm not mistaken the exhaust exit just infront of the lower wing, to improve rear downforce.
Need a diffusor shot now!

I think the answer may be in the cultural differences between us and people from India, grown up and living within caste system. they like to keep the things firmly under control and there is not much room for the trust. especially Gascoyne is a strong personality and it could have been the reason he did not fit into Mallya's vision.

I am working with them for quite a few years and that's how I see them.

My first impression is that it looks "boxy". The rear bodywork is very interesting, not very smooth! Remains to be seen if it can be effective. The front wing looks a bit simplistic to me, but it could work. Radiator inlets have a strange shape, again rather boxy. The mirror supports are nice - if those are allowed I don't understand why no other teams have done it? Very high nose, the front suspension geometry looks less than optimal. The new livery is good, not beautiful, but at least it doesn't look like a McLaren anymore, and I like how they have used the Indian colors.

I see 7-11 instead. I dunno. Could really use a slurpee right now...

And where are the Mercedes badges?

I wonder if thats a KERS cooling inlet just below the airbox. Overall a very impressive debut for the VM02. They seem to take advantage of the Merc's lower cooling necessity. Nice little touches all around.

will be interesting to see its wheelbase relative to all the others.

I doubt it to be honest. That area typically has very poor pressure gradients as they want as much positive pressure air as possible going in the air intake. Also when the driver is in the car that slot will be obstructed. It is also a tiny hole so I can't see much air going through it at all.

Overall, I like the car and it's much more "advanced" than I was expecting. Roll on Melbourne.

Just 2 more launches to go!
