I guess it means Ross Brawn 1. It should have been at least RB002 then.

Wouldn't it be the MP/RB1?

Sounds like some odd mish-mash of McLaren and Redbull...

Better hope that the RB1 isn't trademarked by Red Bull!!!

I don't think MP will start it. The MP stands for something like McLaren Project.

I would hazard a guess at Racing Auto

Hondas prototype bikes are RCxxx (usually - but I cannot find any others)

can't come up with other than that also :D, but RC on Honda's prototype bike was only a traditional racing prefix and wasn't stand for anything actually.

Honda's MotoGP bike is called RC212V where,

RC stands for "Racing Concept"
212 stands for 21st century's 2nd works bike
V stands for V-engine

I was implying the MP for "Mercedes Petronas" like the MP in "McLaren Prototype".

Then of course the RB1 for "Ross Brawn" instead of "Red Bull".

I also think that for any Mercedes to be a true "Silver Arrow" they need a "W" designation. W2010 would be fine, and simple to extrapolate...

seems indeed the car will be called RB1.....
When the new car does roll out, it will be named the RB1, 'RB' being the initials of team principal and former owner Ross Brawn.

haven't heard of Red Bull objectioning it YET

I think that Merc are doing a nice job in giving Ross Brawn the recognition as a contructor. There is a long standing tradition of naming the car with the initials of the constructors choice. This is now superseding the old Mercedes tradition to use "W" which is an abbreviation für Wagen (old German word for car).
