The F1 points scoring system

Post

JAC has brought to the Atlas F1 court the case of whether the existing F1 World Championship points system should be changed.

Currently, points are awarded in the order 10-6-4-3-2-1 for the first six finishers. Unlike several other series, no driver/team finishing outside the top six receives points, nor are points awarded for pole position or fastest race lap.

The Prosecution will argue that the current points system does not accurately award all aspects of the sport, nor does it reflect accurately the relative positions of each driver and team contesting. The Defence will argue that the current points system is fair, satisfactory and should not be changed.

This case has been accepted for hearing, beginning on April 23rd and running until May 7th. The residing judges are Rich and baddog. Judgement will be delivered by May 14th.

Judges' Preamble:

This case will seek to investigate whether a) the current points system is indeed unfair and/or innacurate and/or lacking; and b) what kind of changes ought to be introduced into the system to improve it (should improvement be deemed necessary).

The arguments from both sides should first and foremost encompass evidence to establish deficiency (or not) in the current system. In addition, the Prosecution's arguments should go hand in hand with suggestions as to how the points system could be amended and improved.

There seems to be some kind of mix-up.....the points are for the first 8 and not 6

10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1

...about points for pole-sitters and fastest laps:

in most of the other championships the teams do not have to build their own car, the engine packs are limited to 2 or 3 and the tires are limited up to 3 suppliers. where I'm trying to get is that F1 is a championship where money is everything, the idea of implementing such a points system would only favour the big teams....in the other championships you only have to have a good race engineering and an up-to-date package and you can fight for the pole, fastest lap and podium!....just look at the ChampCars! Nascar! IRL!....besides that they're not governed by the FIA....

Probably with the rules that will take efect in 2008 it might work for the first year....but then the teams with more $$$ will still get the advantage and would grab the extra points!....Schummy would have collected almost everything this year...and last year, and the year before....just as an example.....what about minardi? they don't have a change to fight for these extra points....not even for the normal ones!! LOL

The old points system worked for as long as it was implemented and no one argued about it.....and no one ia arguing about this one....so lets no change it
