These "cheese graters" were first found on the 09 Toyotas, and were then, as I remember it about creating vortexes to dirty up the air for cars following behind. Interesting that last year nobody used them and this year they showed up on the Sauber and McLarens.

That must be a useful side effect rather than the primary reason, though, surely? If they were just for this purpose then why not hang them along the whole of the end plate or towards the rear of the end plate?

They're about extending the effective volume of the diffuser and helping to direct the air outwards in the rear wheels wake, and nothing to do with deliberately messing up the air for the cars behind.

I think that they are primarly for management of the vortices released by diffuser fins and edges

Didnt Williams have them at some point last year??? Or was that also in 09??

From what I remember they're only of real benifit to a single deck diffuser

Ok the engine cover has changed for this race, more W01 and F150 ish, the outlet has also gotten smaller.
