Thats not possible
as the DRS cuts itself off automatically when a car hits the brake
Hence the winking smile and the mention of "rumor"...

@siskue: why the eye roll? I think everyone else got the fact that it was a sarcastic post without feeling the need to comment. Does that bother you?

I can think of 4 places
1. Start finish straight
2. few meters up to the casino square
3. in the tunnel
4. after the chicane
Noe of which are particularly safe considering the lack of straight and even track.
Just_a_fan wrote:The only place I can think of is the run up the hill at Beau Rivage as it's close enough to being straight for an F1 car. But it's quite short and there's no overtaking opportunity so of little overall benefit in using DRS.

The tunnel would be "interesting" - consider the shunts in the last couple of years where drivers have been slightly offline etc through the tunnel.

I don't see the DRS realistically being used at at Monaco (although no doubt they'll end up with a silly little run of it on the pit straight in front of the royal box just for show...)
The run would be so short it'll be of no benefit to anyone. I agree that the run up the hill at Bau Rivage is a possibility but the cars are unstable enough as it over the bumps.

That would be fun for Monaco. Cars run with DRS at all times, then the car being chased goes to a full flap when there is less than 1 second lead.

That's what I thought as well and pulling off a move there with your DRS open would only end up in the barriers in all honesty. The only safe way I can see DRS being used effectively in Monaco is if there's lighting in the tunnel which will never happen since it takes away the challenge of that part of the track.

Yup they had it on the car, whether or not the drivers actually used it is the question.

I think we need to remember that with the loss of the DDD the cars will have a lot less downforce, and the DRS will shed more downforce than the F-duct. MP4-25 with F-duct has much more downforce than MP4-26 with DRS.

I think you've all missed one BIG point when it comes to monza. Tire wear! Look at the short stretch after the hairpin at china. Cars with good tires were out dragging worn tired cars in the short run into the final corner. Traction is just as important out of the slow chicanes at monza and i think running with a lower DF level will ultimatly loose you alot of time in race pace. Pirelli will no doubt bring the soft and super soft and looking after them in the italian summer with no DF will be hard when your mashing the throttle into the floor out of the chicanes. Plus latteral slip destroys tires. Long right hand corners of curva grande and parabolica will put alot of stress on the soft sidewalls of the tire.

Also....Balance. If you go light on DF, on the rear, to get a good aero balance the front wing will also need to be trimmed back, which MAY nullify, any top speed advantage, being able to follow close enough through parabolica to even get a chance of using a less affective than usual DRS to over take...

Your thoughts please...

Eh? I disagree. Monza has always been very kind on tyres.

Kind on Brigestone, sticky, durable tires. Tires that were designed to last and still be quick. Every driver has been saying how its the rears that go first. So its got to be the acceleration thats killing them. If you lower your DF you lower your apex speed needing more acceleration. OR you carry on at the same speed with low DF and ask more mechanicaly from the tires..wearing them further. With such a large part of the DF from the DDD last year i see the need for more wing. I think it will play evidence to who has the better blown floor as they wont need to use as much wing.

also remember 2005 at Indy, the michelin tires construction was to blame for the MASSIVE amount of wear on the rears in the long final corner. Pirelli admited to removing a level of construction the aided in tire life.

Did anyone else see the back straight at china where there was a dark line of rubber all the way down off the racing line? Even if the durability isnt tested, in the DRS zone, there will be loads of marbles.

Here's an interesting discussion of the subject by James Allen http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/04/w ... -the-race/

Wouldn't that give the advantage to the leading car?
