We're having an excellent year - Heidfeld

Following his good performances at the British and German Grands Prix, Nick Heidfeld is currently riding a wave of success. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver is happy with the way the season has gone so far, but sees potential for improvement.

Nick Heidfeld believes the 2008 Formula One season has been a positive one so far. The team has not only achieved the goal it set itself at the start of the season - the first victory - but has also passed several other milestones: "We are having an excellent season," Nick told the German media. "We have already achieved three best marks: the first fastest lap, the first pole position, and the first victory."

Despite the joy surrounding the successful season so far, Nick wants to continue improving. He says: "My season so far: there have been some great Grands Prix, with good overtaking manoeuvres and results, but I have not always been happy with the qualifying results."

Robert Kubica has proven to be the faster of the two BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers in qualifying. At the start of April, the Pole secured the first pole position for himself and the team from Munich and Hinwil. Nick believes Robert's advantages in qualifying are due in part to the way the two drivers handle the car differently.

"Robert is coming out on top in some driving situations, particularly when it comes to heating the tyres up in qualifying. Our different driving styles play a role in this. I would describe my driving style as very rounded and gentle on the car and tyres. It was this that allowed me to keep going for 41 laps on the super-soft tyres in Canada at the start of June."
