Ecclestone insists medal system will be introduced in 2009

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone insists that the idea of a medal system in the pinnacle of motorsport will be introduced by the 2009 season. With the introduction of the controversial system, the World Championship title will go to the driver with the most wins, unlike this season.

According to Ecclestone the F1 teams are with him on the issue. This could mean that the change will be ratified by the FIA during the World Motor Sport Council in December.

Ecclestone was quoted by 'The Associated Press' saying: "It's going to happen. All the teams are happy.

“The reason this happens is that I get fed up with people talking about no overtaking. It's just not on that someone can win the world championship without trying to win the race."
