Window for improvement is far bigger - Kubica

The Formula 1 season is unravelling in an unusual and surprising fashion: Teams which last year seldom, if ever, fought for podium places, are leading the world championship, while those who had a virtual 'right' to wins and points are fighting hard to retain the status quo. BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Robert Kubica provides the reasons.

"The many rule changes have created a new Formula 1," says Kubica. "The window for improvement is far bigger. If you do it correctly, then the steps are large because the grid is so tight. Previously an update could provide three-tenths without a change of position."

It is, though, a different matter this year, believes Robert: "With three-tenths you can improve five rows, explaining why the order changes so quickly. Everybody is competitive. On Saturday I lost two-tenths - and ended fifth instead of second. If you bring a functioning update to a race, you have an immediate advantage."
