Leclerc reveals why he stays in Budapest until Wednesday

Having secured the pole position for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari driver Charles Lelcerc revealed that he will stay in Budapest until Wednesday as he is set to complete a day of Pirelli tyre test.

Ferrari endured a challenging day at the Hungaroring. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton displayed great pace in final practice, ending up third and fourth, respectively.

However, the conditions changed massively for qualifying, with track temperatures having dropped and the wind having picked up. This seemingly affected Ferrari more than their rivals.

Hamilton struggled in Q1, but made it through into Q2, albeit he was unable to achieve anything more than a P12 on the grid for tomorrow’s Budapest race.

His team-mate Leclerc struggled across the opening two sessions as well, but progressed into Q3. After his first hot lap, he found himself in a disappointing P7, but he delivered again when it mattered to secure an absolutely astonishing pole position for tomorrow’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

"Monaco is a little bit different because I felt like the speed was always there, but then we were really struggling to transfer that to Sunday and to finally win.

"Here has been very different because the pace was never there, so then it was difficult to transfer anything on the Sunday. But finally, the pace is there on Saturday, and now our full focus will be to try and keep that pace for tomorrow.

"And I hope that it will be the start of getting that feeling on this track, which for now didn't really get on with my driving style. But obviously for now I'll just focus on maximising tomorrow, but after the weekend, I'm anyway doing the test on Wednesday, so I've got two days free where I can analyse a little bit why I had a better feeling this weekend compared to other years."
