Renault to appear before WMSC on cheating claims

Representatives of ING Renault Formula One Team have been requested to appear before an extraordinary meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Monday, 21 September 2009 and this to answer questions involving the crash of Piquet Jr. at last year's Singapore GP.

"The team representatives have been called to answer charges, including a breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, that the team conspired with its driver, Nelson Piquet Jr, to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of its other driver, Fernando Alonso."

In the meantime, we believe the FIA have ordered an external company to look into the rumours and see if there is any evidence of race fixing.

While it is unclear at this time where the rumours have come from after almost a year has passed since the events, the recent sacking of Nelson Piquet Jr. by the Renault team may well have triggered some tongues to get loose. The ongoing investigation and the explanations to the findings at the upcoming meeting might shed more light as if there is some truth and if Renault may fear for a severe sanction.
