Vettel tops FP1, Alonso halts on track

Sebastian Vettel went fastest right out of the box on the first session of the Brazilian GP weekend. The German was half a second faster than his teammate, while Lewis Hamilton was a close third, ahead of the second McLaren and Robert Kubica

As if not to forget in what difficult situation Fernando Alonso is in with his engines, he halted on track after 20 laps, most likely preventing his engine to blow up completely. The running engine was coming to its end of life however, and the team did plan to change engines anyway ahead of FP2 as well.

Under sunny skies, there were no major other incidents, but Mercedes GP drivers Rosberg and Schumacher were able to experiment with their cars fitted with non-double diffusers in order for the team to get some early data for next year's car.
