Toro Rosso aero testing disrupted by failure on new chassis

F1 Test, Barcelona, Circuit de Catalunyaes

Today, the Catalunya circuit hosted the first day of its second pre-season test, replacing the one originally planned to take place in Bahrain. The hope was for warmer weather than at the previous three sessions – Valencia, Jerez and Barcelona - but in fact, a cold wind kept it chilly and the breeze meant conditions were not ideal for aerodynamic testing.

Driver: Sebastien Buemi
Chassis: STR6 - 03
Best time: 1:26.004, 48 laps

Sebastien gave STR6 chassis number 3 its maiden outing today, starting to run in the light rain that affected the start of the session. Unfortunately, after just a couple of laps, a component failed on the car, causing damage to the car itself and a tyre. Repairing the damage took up the rest of the morning, so the Swiss driver’s running was restricted to this afternoon. Running only the hard Pirelli tyre, the team worked on aero measurements and front wing evaluation.

Sebastien continues to drive tomorrow, before Jaime Alguersuari takes over on Thursday for the final two days of testing prior to cars and equipment being freighted to Melbourne for the first race of the season.
