F1 Commission approves name change requests

During a Formula 1 Commission meeting in Geneva on Thursday, the F1 Chiefs approved the name change requests that were put forward by Team Lotus, Renault Lotus F1 and Marussia Virigin Racing. From 2012, Team Lotus will become known as Caterham, Renault will switch to Lotus and Virgin Racing will switch to Marussia

The changes still need to go through the FIA's World Motor Sport Council before becoming official, but this is believed to be a formality.

If inked, this would also end the famous Lotus naming row, and will finally end the confusion of having two Lotus teams in Formula One. At the same time, it will also clearly indicate that LRGP is now a team on its own, rather than the Renault works team it once was.
