Having finishes second last time out at Monza, Lando Norris managed to pump in a 1m 42.704s to finish atop the leaderboard in the opening practice session, putting himself three tenths clear of his team mate Oscar Piastri.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc finished third, but he was over half a second adrift of Norris' pace-setting time, with his deficit coming from the first sector where the papaya cars looked absolutely dominant.

George Russell wound up fourth in the lead Mercedes, from Williams driver Alexander Albon and the Red Bull cars of Yuki Tsunoda and Max Verstappen. The Dutch driver looked very competitive early one, but he had to abandon a lap when he ran out of road on entry to the tight Turn 15.

Calors Sainz was one of the most diligent drivers with his tally of 17 laps, ending up eighth quickest, followed by the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar, and the Silver Arrows machine of Kimi Antonelli.

Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg took 12th, ahead of Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who clipped the wall and suffered damage to the front wing of his SF-25.

Gabriel Bortoleto set an identical time to Hamilton, but the Briton recorded his lap earlier which meant the the Brazilian finished behind the seven-time world champion.

The Aston Martin and Haas drivers took the position from P15 to P18, with Fernando Alonso finishing just ahead of Ollie Bearman, Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon, whilst the Alpine duo Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly brought up the rear of the field.
