Circuit of Americas would accept 2013 delay

One day after announcing a halt to the construction works at Austin, and in response to further comments by Bernie Ecclestone, Circuit of the Americas, destined to host the United States GP, has said it would be happy with a 1 year delay.

Earlier today, Bernie Ecclestone said to the media "We have done absolutely everything we could to host the 2012 American GP at Austin, but now I can say with absolute certainty that the race will not happen."

Ecclestone is convinced problems between the circuit owner, promoter Tavo Hellmund and problems with securing the funding from the Texas government have caused too much issues and delays to secure the race.

Feeling that it is likely impossible to hold on to the 2012 race, the circuit owner has now rapidly released a statement saying it would be happy with a 2013 event.

“We have been excited for and working towards a 2012 USGP race and now understand that Mr. Ecclestone is interested in moving the Austin race to 2013,” stated Steve Sexton, president of Circuit of The Americas. “We know the U.S. market is important to the teams and their sponsors and 2013 certainly allows time for the Circuit of The Americas to be ready.”
