VIP race in Bahrain

The organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix have arranged a truly attractive support programme for the 2006 Formula One season kick-off, with two VIP races contested by numerous sports and showbiz celebrities representing an additional highlight.

On Saturday and Sunday of the forthcoming Grand Prix weekend, the 'Bahrain International Circuit' will be the venue of a celebrity race. 16 internationally renowned greats from the world of sport and entertainment will contest the two ten-lap races. Household names such as Olympic Gold Medallist Michael Johnson (track and field), former Formula One aces Christian Danner and Johnny Herbert and the musicians Rick Parfitt (Status Quo) and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Manson.

"I'm so delighted at the reaction and willigness of the stars to take part in the Pro-Celebrity race," said Martin Whitaker, General Manager of the BIC. "It's great to have so many high-calibre personalities taking time out of their schedules to participate in this event. I am in no doubt that the two races will prove to be very entertaining for the crowds and the viewers at home."
