Japanese wheel manufacturer BBS will supply wheels to all ten Formula One teams for the forthcoming 2022 F1 season as the sport faces a technical revolution in what will be the 73rd running of the Formula One World Championship.

While Pirelli remain the official tyre partner and provider, BBS would partner and supply the rims to all Formula One teams from 2022 as part of a four-year deal.

The 2022 season will see the introduction of totally new cars which is aimed at promoting overtaking. As part of the technical overhaul, Formula One will also move from 13 inches (33 cm) to 18 inches (46 cm) wheels in the coming season. The 18-inch wheels were introduced into the Formula 2 Championship in 2020, to test changes in tyre behaviour. The Milan-based tyre supplier hopes that the new tyres are less prone to overheating and can be pushed harder for longer which should mean better on-track battles.

The deal with wheel manufacturer BBS was announced during the Tokyo Auto Salon car show. Teams could previously select their wheel suppliers with brands including OZ and Enkei supplying the outfits. BBS Motorsport has been an active part of motorsport for over fourty years and has a proven track record with with more than 4,000 race wins in all classes, on racetracks all over the world,
