Formula E: Ticktum secures maiden Formula E victory in hectic Jakarta race

The American-owned Formula E team, CUPRA KIRO, battled to a historic first victory in its debut season in the series, with Dan Ticktum capitalising upon a thrilling Jakarta E-Prix to finish on top of the podium.
Following a difficult qualifying session taht took place on a partly damp durface, Jake Dennis came out on top to secure pole position for the third ever Jakarta Formula E race.
The British driver had a strong start and maintained the lead into Turn 1 while Mahindra driver Nyck de Vries managed to overtake McLaren racer Taylor Barnard for P2.
Two-time Formula E champion Jean Eric Vergne was the first driver to use his first attack mode. However, he picked up significant damage to the front wing of his car which forced him to pit.
In the meantime, championship leader Oliver Rowland progressed well following his qualifying struggles. The Nissan driver found himself in P12 on Lap 7, but he was handed a five-second penalty for causing a collision with Maximilian Guenther.
On Lap 18, the majority of drivers in the top ten dived for ATTACK MODE as the race approached the halfway stage.
Three laps later, De Vries complately closed in on race leader Dennis. The Dutch driver had two minutes overlap in attack mode over the British racer. On the start-finish straight, de Vries was eager to make the move as he only had 20 seconds left from the power boost.
The Dutch driver exited the last corner well, and manaed to pull alongside, and although he was almost completely ahead of Dennis, he slight swept across the nose of his rival. As a result of the contact, the small touch broke the Andretti's front wing while De Vries' Mahindra was seemingly unhurt.
Although the race direction initially hesitated, the Safety Car was deployed for the debris to be cleared.
The action continued on Lap 26, with de Vries heaving led Dennis ahead of Mortara, Ticktum, da Costa, Cassidy, Buemi, Mueller, Barnard and Rowland.
Trying to move up the order, Pascal Wehrlein was eager to make a move on championship leader Rowland at Turn 7. However, the German driver touched the back of the Nissan, and lost a position to Barnard instead of moving up the order.
On Lap 31, most of the drivers in the top ten had attack mode, only da Costa and Barnard waited to activate their second power boost. There was drama on the same lap as both Maserati drivers Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne parked their cars in run-off zones with different issues.
In the meantime, Dennis and de Vries dropped down all the way down the pack, while the former eventually had to pit, the latter parked down his car in a run-off zone. A Full Course Yellow was deployed.
The yellow-flag interruption was only a brief period and the race went green on Lap 34, Ticktum leading Mortara, Mueller, da Costa, Cassidy, Barnard, Bird, Frijns, Evans and Beckmann the net top 10 taking Buemi and Rowland's penalties into account.
Although Mortara was all over the back of Ticktum's car, the British managed to fend off the attacks to secure his maiden Formula E victory in his fourth season in the all-electric series.
Mortara finished second, with Mueller completing the podium. Da Costa took the chequered flag in P4, ahead of Cassidy, the McLaren duo Barnard and Bird, while Buemi, Frijns and Rowland brough up the rear of the top ten.
