Antonelli and Alonso follow Hamilton in exceeding their power unit allocation at Spa

On the back of their disappointing performances in Saturday's qualifying session, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso and Mercedes racer Andrea Kimi Antonelli have followed Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton in taking on fresh power unit components.
Following a disappointing result for Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari has elected to install new power unit components on his Ferrari SF-25. With the Briton having exceeded his allocation for the 2025 F1 season, Hamilton is forced into a pitlane start at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso and Mercedes racer Andrea Kimi Antonelli have mirrored what Hamilton has done, taking on fresh power unit components.
However, while the Ferrari driver took on a fresh internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H, MGU-K, energy store and control electronics, Alonso and Antonelli have only received a new ICE, TC, MGU-H and MGU-K, but it has also been enough for him to start from the pit lane.
The stewards's statement read: "The penalty is imposed in accordance with Article 28.3. of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations (‘Sporting Regulations’).
"The use of each additional element in this case carries a 10 grid place penalty therefore there is an accumulation of 40 places. Article 42.3 d) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations provides that a driver which has accrued more than 15 cumulative grid position penalties must start from the back of the grid.
"However, as components were changed without the permission of the FIA Technical Delegate Car 14 must therefore start the race from the pit lane as specified by Art.40.9 (b)."
