F1 MATHS: What does the constructors' championship look like after the Hungarian GP?

By on

With the F1 field slowly returning to race action after the well-deserved summer break, F1Technical's senior writer Balazs Szabo takes a look at the standings in the Constructors' Championship.

The Hungarian Grand Prix saw McLaren further strengthen their lead in the Constructors’ Championship. The papaya team has won eleven of the first fourteen races, and secured seven double victories so far in 2025.

This hugely impressive result has enabled McLaren to build up a insurmountable lead in the teams’ standings, with Ferrari sitting second, but the Scuderia has 299 points deficit to the Woking-based squad’s tally of 559 points.

Mercedes are still third in the standings, but they have fractionally closed in on Ferrari at the Hungaroring thanks to the Scuderia’s woes on race day. The deficit of 24 points mean that they will be very much embroiled in a thrilling fight in the remaining ten races, repeating their battle for second place in the constructors’ standings from the 2023 season.

Although Red Bull were in the fight for fourth place thanks to Max Verstappen’s impressive results in the early stages of the season, the Milton Keynes-based outfit is slowly losing touch with Mercedes and Ferrari.

As far as the midfield is concerned, Williams looked in a league of their own in the early stages of the season. However, the Grove-based outfit has endured a poor form recently, with Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon having only scored points once and twice, respectively, since the Barcelona round.

It means that while Williams sit in fifth place on 70 points, Aston Martin, Kick Sauber and Racing Bulls have closed in on them in recent races.

Haas has not scored any points at the last three Grands Prix, albeit they ended the Spa F1 Sprint with a double points-paying result which saw them increase their points tally to 35 points.

Brining up the rear of the standings, Alpine have collected a total of 20 points so far courtesy of some impressive race performances from Pierre Gasly.
