Tsunoda fails to understand why he was unable to “extract the peak performance to get into Q3”

Having been knocked out in the middle segment of qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix, Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda admitted he felt strange that “we didn't extract the peak performance to get into Q3.”
Following the opening day at the Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had predicted that he might struggle to qualify inside the top three.
However, the home favourite bounced back on Saturday, and delivered a sensational performance, setting the quickest sector time in the middle segment of the Zandvoort circuit to secure third place for Sunday’s race.
His team-mate Yuki Tsunoda displayed an improved form on Saturday, but the close margins meant he only ended up 12th on the grid.
Reflecting on his up-and-down qualifying session, Tsunoda struggled to provide an answer why he failed to extra the peak performance despite having made no mistakes on his last flying lap.
"I believed that I did my best today to be honest. I was happy with the lap, it felt clean and there weren't any mistakes from my end so it was strange that we didn't extract the peak performance to get into Q3.
“The car was good and the pace was there, the result didn't match the way I felt during the session. I'm disappointed and frustrated in the result today, but I shall keep digging to find performance tomorrow.
Signing off with a word for his targets, Tsunoda noted: “I qualified close to the points, so there is potential to score and that's what we'll aim to do as I felt confident in the car, so we'll see what tomorrow brings where anything can happen."
