F1MATHS: How does the constructors' championship look like after the season-opening Australian Grand Prix?

The opening round of the 2026 Formula One season produced a clear early hierarchy in the constructors’ championship, with Mercedes immediately establishing itself as the team to beat.
The Brackley squad scored a commanding 43 points, thanks to George Russell’s victory from pole and Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s superb second place. Their one‑two finish demonstrated both the strength of Mercedes’ new‑era car, living up to the expectation after the pre-season testing in Bahrain.
Behind them, Ferrari emerged as the closest challenger, earning 27 points through Charles Leclerc’s third place and Lewis Hamilton’s fourth. The team’s double top‑four finish showed that Ferrari has carried strong form into the new regulations and may be Mercedes’ primary rival in the early phase of the season.
McLaren‑Mercedes sits third in the standings with 10 points, all scored by Lando Norris, who finished fifth. Oscar Piastri’s failure to start the race prevented McLaren from securing a stronger haul, but Norris’ points keep the reigning constructors’ champions within reach of the front.
Red Bull Racing–Red Bull Ford follows with 8 points, earned solely by Max Verstappen, who finished sixth and claimed the fastest lap. Isack Hadjar Pérez retired, leaving Red Bull with a mixed and somewhat concerning start to the season as they adapt to the new power unit regulations.
A very positive surprise came from Haas‑Ferrari, which scored 6 points thanks to Oliver Bearman’s seventh‑place finish. Racing Bulls–Red Bull Ford also opened its campaign with points, as rookie Arvid Lindblad finished eighth to give the team 4 points, while Liam Lawson finished outside the points in 13th.
Further down the order, Audi scored 2 points through Gabriel Bortoleto’s ninth‑place finish, marking a modest but meaningful start to the German manufacturer’s first season as a full works team.
Alpine‑Mercedes earned 1 point thanks to Pierre Gasly’s tenth place, while Esteban Ocon finished outside the points. Atlassian Williams‑Mercedes, Cadillac‑Ferrari, and Aston Martin Aramco‑Honda all failed to score.
Williams’ Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto finished 12th and 15th, respectively, while Cadillac’s Sergio Pérez finished 16th and Isack Hadjar retired. Aston Martin endured a difficult weekend, with Fernando Alonso retiring and Lance Stroll classified as not finishing.
