Toro Rosso tests new components

The first official Formula One test session of the new year got underway in southern Spain this morning, after heavy overnight rain meant the circuit of Jerez stayed wet until the afternoon.

Although inconvenient in some ways, the damp conditions meant that both our Sebastia(e)ns were able to experience the joy of driving a Formula 1 car in the wet, without the aid of traction control and engine braking, as this was the first wet test with cars running the 2008 electronic specification. Other new elements on the car were also introduced for the first time to comply with 2008 technical regulations: gearbox components adapted to run for four race weekends and the cockpit modified to meet new safety standards.

Evaluating all these elements forms the main part of the agenda for tomorrow.
