Alonso leads Schumacher

Fernando Alonso has today secured his second pole position of the season. Thanks to a splendid lap he was able to stay in front of Michael Schumacher who manager a fast second qualifying, enough to push Trulli away to the second start line. The performance is a true sign of the possible potential of the new Ferrari F2005

After an error in the first session, Ralf Schumacher had to show something to move up the grid. So he did with an excellent Toyota, setting the 3rd fastest time of the day. He remained in front of one runner after the other and will eventually start the 2005 Bahrain GP from 6th place.

When it was time for the first Ferrari it was immediately clear Barrichello was having a problem. The Brazilian only noted a top speed of 316km/h where only Villeneuve was slower. Immediately after that lap the F2005 was stopped precautionary without doing an inlap.

A surprising fastest top speed came off the hands of Narain Karthikeyan. He topped 330.6 km/h, equalled by pole man Alonso and closely followed by the other F2005 with 330.0 km/h.

The first renault driving with Fisico at the wheel obviously is suffering from instability all weekend as he missed the brakepoint of the last corner of the first section. He will therefore be 10 places behind his teammate Alonso.

Furthermore, both Williams' did a good job while the McLaren lost some places and may be running higher fuel loads than the other contenders.
