Schumacher on pole!

By on

For the first time this year Michael Schumacher was the quickest again in a qualifying session, now even leading with 0.8 second in front of second man Montoya. It is exceptional since nothing really changed to the car since Hockenheim where Ferrari dissapointed. Third on tomorrow's grid will be Jarno Trulli.

Both Toyota drivers are keeping up with the McLaren pace. It may seem like forever, but at the beginning of the season, Toyota were battling for the lead in the constructor's championship with Renault. It seems like today they have found back some of that pace.

Fernando Alonso is sixth, a somehow disapointing result that has several explanations. Sure he lost some time in the last corner because of running a little bit too wide but he is still 3 positions up to his team mate Fisichella. Secondly both Renault cars are thought to be in trouble with their rear tires and have therefore opted for a slightly harder compound than McLaren, the same now as B.A.R is using.

The first of those B.A.R cars is again Jenson button who set the 8th best time, just behind the Ferrari of Barrichello. Because of Barrichello's performance Schumacher is expected to be on an early first stop or an extra stop overall.

Further down the grid has Klien beaten Coulthard to the fastest man in a Redbull, ahed of both Williams and Sauber cars.

Tiago Monteiro again did not manage a time just like he failed to do in Hockenheim.
